Back there on LZ Ross one day, this was right after the butt kicking we got up around Center, I decided to medicate my nerves good with a bottle of that 45 whisky think it was. I kind of said to heck with everything and hid in one of the empty bunkers. We didn't have enough people to man all of them. Think this went on a day and a night and part of another day. When I sobered up it occurred to me that I might be in serious trouble. Leaving the bunker I ran smack into Capt. Seketa. Ut Oh. Instead of getting mad he asked me if I was scared and related how they had mowed everybody down around him in the ambush of the 11th of May. Then he took me back to my platoon and smoothed everything over with them. An Officer AND a Gentleman .

I served as a Echo Company 20th Inf Commander in Korea in 1964 and Bn XO in 1970. I saw Lt Dobreniecki's name and message, I was trying to get hold of him but my message was sent back. Could you get hold of him for me. I would sincerely appreciate it. There also a Fred Bowerman also inquiring about Echo Company wanting to know about Echo Company in Korea of which I may help. Your help in this matter will be highly appreciated. Bill Honjiyo

I am one of 1LT Richard Gardner's many nephews and I am looking for stories of my uncle and his friends.  I did not know my uncle, he visited on his way overseas when I was two. Any stories or remembrances would be great.  Chris Gardner

Webmaster's Note: Lt Gardner was KIA 4/24/70 as FO from C-6-11 Arty to D-1-20 Inf.  Also KIA that day were his RTO, PFC Fred Larson (C-6-11) and CPT Jim Fowler (CO, D-1-20).  Additional wounded was the 4.2" mortar FO, Ronald Primavera (E-1-20).

Great site, brings back a lot of memories. I joined the unit 3 days after My Lai and became LT Calley's RTO. I carried a Thompson with the buttstock removed. My wife passed away a year ago and part of coping with that, I am trying to cope with my PTSD. I was saddened to hear of Chuck Seketa's death, though I did not know him, he was a great man and true warrior. I would like to hear from Pate to find out how is leg is doing. Thank you my brothers, I love you all and the best of luck to my brothers. If anyone has pictures of me, I would like a copy.

The 2nd battalion was at Camp Anderson, near Yosu, Korea. I was there from November, 1946, until December, 1947. I was told that camp was the site of a former Japanese seaplane base, which made sense, as there was a large concrete ramp and several (probable) hangars that had been carved into a rise near the edge of the bay. E company and Headquarters company were in frame Japanese barracks. The rest of the battalion lived in Quonset huts. The first and third battalions were at Kwangju, about ninety miles north of us. Starting in Spring, 1947, my platoon was sent to Cheju Do, a large island south of Korea, for six weeks. There was a sign on our barrack that read "Headquarters United States Armed Forces on Cheju". How's that for one platoon!

It seems there is a bit of the 20th Infantry's history missing or I'm just confused. I'm trying to find info on my father- in-law's service. He served in Korea from 1962-1963 in E-company, 20th Infantry attached to the Eighth Army.  I'm sure that he is correct because in his photos he wears the Eighth Army sleeve patch and the crossed guns of the 20th on his field cap.  His photo album cover also shows a Korean map with his unit affiliation as 20th Inf. , Co E, also on the cover is APO301 along with both insignia for the 8th Army and 20th Inf.  I'm trying to gather as much info as I can to surprise him on Fathers Day with unit patches, medals, unit citations, history, etc. to incorporate into a display.  I saw that another person on this site said he was also in Korea in 1962, also in E-company, and that their mission was guarding an ammo dump south of Seoul which is in the same location my father- in-law states he was' yet I believe your history said that the unit was deactivated in 1961.  He has said that they were on special assignment and that there wouldn't be much documented. Could this be true?  I also know that when he discharged he stated he was transferred to the 2nd Infantry Division in 1964 and his discharge uniform shows the 2nd Inf. Indian Head sleeve patch.  I would appreciate any help that you guys can give to help honor our veteran for his service.  Don't know if this helps, his name is Ernest (Ernie) Tennant, Rank Spec. 4.

I met Chuck many years after Vietnam.. He honored our family by becoming a member when he married my sister Cindi ... Chuck made her so happy; always a smile, a joke, a story ... they became the best part of my visits back east. We always talked about his research project. Early on he said that you can have 5 people at the same event and they shall see 5 different things. Chuck had become my Father's best friend and gave years of himself to him.  Every time I visited I saw contentment in both of them. Chuck would visit my family with Cindi in Oklahoma. I had a great time taking him to visit vets in this area. We went to the college he attended. In the library hung a picture of him and the football team. He coached football in Liverpool.. Well I am yet to be over the shock of his passing. I lost a brother ... a true friend ... and a man that always gave more of himself to his family and fellow vets than most will ever believe. Chuck loved all of you ... and most important he loved himself.. Rest in peace my friend. Love, Joe

I had never met Cpt. Chuck Seketa but you did a wonderful service to all of us in the 1/20th Infantry by coordinating this Guest Book and I honor you and my regards to your family. I commented on this guest book one year ago and actually found two comrades I was seeking. Would enjoy hearing from anyone in country in 69-70 Co..A and I'm planning on attending the Sept reunion especially since it's near me in St.Louis. I have a new e-mail address from last year it will be noted on this new entry. I could not have chosen a better Battalion than the 1/20 Infantry if I had been given the choice.

Gentlemen, after many years of searching I have found my LT. Turns out, he is a retired Col.  Fellas, this guy was and most likely still is a TRUE AMERICAN HERO!!!  He was a SSGT in the S.F., served in Laos, Commissioned then served very bravely as E 1/20 Plt Leader Americal Div. I was told that he had been killed shortly after I departed Viet Nam, but I refused to believe the second hand info, because I know what kind of WARRIOR the man is. Just by chance I clicked on the site early Saturday morning and lo and behold, he has made the FIRST entry!!! The moral of my story is: don't give up!, misinformation can be hurtful. I HAVE FOUND MY LT. J WILSON!!!!!!!!! HAPPILY, C E WALKER

I served in E Company in Korea in 1963. Two of our distinguished soldiers were Major Jack Sanford, the CO who was a helicopter pilot shot down and killed in Vietnam in 1965 and Sgt Joe Hooper who received the Medal of Honor for his service in Vietnam. I joined D Company, 1/20th in 1968, and served under Cpt. O'Leary. I came out with the 1/20 as an RTO. I was in the CP group with Ray Harvy and Norm Mazerzick. They were the Captain's radio operators. I was with you guys when we went to LZ Cork. I was with you when Lt. Bales, Two Crow, and two others were killed. I was with you guys when we lost those others in the chopper crash. I was eventually replaced by Lt. Champee and went back to my Artillery battery, C 6/11th. I am in one of Ray Harveys pictures on the web. Second set of pictures, third row down, and fourth picture over. Me at table and Harvy setting behind me. Miss all you guys, and have pictures if someone is interested. Thanks Bob Manning

I spoke with Lt Mike Herber today and he informed me of Capt Seketa's passing. I was saddened by the news. I spoke with Capt Seketa on the phone a couple of years ago when he called out of the blue after almost 40 years. It sure brought back a lot of memories that I had tried to forget. After talking with him for about an hour I was assured that it was OK to remember and not to be ashamed of the past but to be proud of what we had accomplished. The Captain will be sorely missed by the many whose lives he has touched.

I had the honor and pleasure to talk with Chuck several times. Without his tireless efforts this site would not exist, nor would many of us been able to reconnect. I first found this site 3+ years ago after visiting the traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall that came to my home town. I had been employed in the technology industry for over 15 years, was an Internet geek since 1993, but had never Googled Vietnam. I came back that day and Googled for hours, found Chuck's site which lead to other sites. I shall always have a smile on my face when I think of Chuck and his wonderful contributions to his fellow soldiers. We all owe Chuck a big salute, he was a fine soldier, officer and man. RIP.  Wolfie

I arrived in Hawaii assigned to 25th Div. but they already left for Nam. There were 5 of us in Quad D Scofield barracks until the 11th Bde started forming. I was the only EM with a drivers license for Hawaii, therefore I picked up all incoming officers and dependents at airport. When Capt. Seketa took command of A Co.1/20 I was his driver and spent many hours with him taking him places no other jeep had been. I had NCO's get out and walk but Seketa rode through the slippin, slidin, and tippin of the jeep. I had the utmost respect for him and remember him often. I regret that I was out of town when he wanted to meet with me a few years back, in Kalamazoo Mi. I was Seketa's driver, XO's driver( Lt Bordner), 2 1/2 ton driver, Company Armorer and I deployed to Viet Nam with A Co. as Chief computer for F.D.C. 81 mortars. I served Dec.5/67--Dec./68 F.D.C.--- V.N.

It gives us all pause when a warrior passes. It appears that he had a positive impact on Soldiers lives and everyone else he touched. That is a great honor. As a current Soldier and commander, I would like to thank you for your service to our nation. As fewer Americans serve their country, it makes me more appreciative of all that do and have done so. We are currently in our 7th month of a 12 month deployment in Iraq. Activity has been very quiet, I tell Soldiers that this is what victory looks like after 7 years of fighting. Gordon: I am a county Veteran Service Officer from Wisconsin trying to help a Vietnam veteran with a claim. I ran across your posting on the 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry website. You mentioned working in Graves Registration in Chu Lai somewhere between 68 and 69. I am working with Gene Goin who was stationed in Chu Lai 23rd S&T from 10/68 to 5/70. The last 7 or so months of his tour was in Graves Registration. Is there any possibility you may remember him? It would help immeasurably if you were able to verify his assignment and anything else you may remember. Anyone who may have known Gene Goin please contact me. Thank you for you time and consideration.

One time, it must have been in May or June of 68,We were doing security on that road between LZ Ross and Baldy. Capt. Seketa came along and grabbed me and my AG, Beaver, and took us on an impromptu recon out on the north side of the road. Four of us, one RTO, one M 60, one AG and one Captain. We went way the heck out there maybe a click and came across this guy with about a 5 year old boy by the hand. So we do the "dung lai" thing and try to get the guy to stop. Nothing doing, he got this little boy by the hand and was making it for the bushes 50 ft away. I looked at Seketa for a signal to shoot the guy. He just kind of shook his head no and let him go.....

It was never mentioned about the 26 officers involved up and over Calley.... The whole thing makes me want to pewk. The 11th Bde collectively have more battle streamers, more campaign ribbons, more years of continuous service than any military company in history. The history of the 11th Bde reads like the battle history of the United states. It was an honor to be a part of that. We are Jungle Warriors of an untouched caliber. Chuck was a fine officer and a fine man. I had just talked to him for a long time in late 2009. Something in his voice told me he was becoming very weak. I never heard from him again, now I know why. A couple of things I remember about Chuck. Whenever we had a barbecue in Hawaii, Chuck insisted that his meat had to be cooked to the point that it looked like a chunk of charcoal. No medium rare for him. He was single at the time we were there. Frequently, at a party, he would be having a great time and then we would look around and he had disappeared like a ghost. I didn't know my wife could dance the polka until Chuck took her out on the floor. She had a great time, but he about wore her out. Chuck was the kind of person that made you feel better by his just being around. One time in Vietnam when I was the battalion S-2, I radioed him that a North Vietnamese battalion was likely in his area. Chuck said "If it's all the same to you, I'd just as soon not find them." A sad loss, but he will always live in the hearts of those of us who knew him. My wife and I send condolences to his family.

Claude Tillman Roper was engaged to my niece when he was KIA 10/03/68. I just wanted to say thank you to the guys who were his friends during his time in Vietnam. Also I met an old neighbor at the VA clinic near me who was with Tillman only a couple of hours before his death. This guy is suffering from severe PTSD and is having severe flashbacks of the time Tillman left on patrol. Anyone who remembers Elwyn Hollifield or can help with details of actions of that time period please contact me. The VA is giving him the usual run around and he needs documentation of the events surrounding his tour that could have caused his PTSD. Any help will be appreciated. I will put you in touch with him as soon I have your phone number. He doesn't have a computer so I'm just trying to help a friend and fellow vet out. Thanks for anything you can offer to help. I did not know Cpt Seketa had passed until I visited this guest book last evening. I am sorry I did not have the great honor of meeting him. To have thought of us and our great unit enough to set up this website is in itself a tribute to his memory. Thank you Chuck. I also want to correct my post. I probably did not become LTC Guinn's RTO until early 1969. My memory isn't as good as it used to be. Its strange how after we left country we tried to forget it and in these later years we try to remember some of it.

I found this site a few months ago. Thank you for establishing our history. I was in the Forward Command Group in the Commo Section. We had a very good group of guys. I served as LTC Guinn's RTO I think from the end of '68 until I derosed in April of 69. I have nothing but found memories of those I served with and of the 1/20th. Maj AJ Danner was our XO, Cpt Robb, Big Red and all the others. I remember I went to assist our Commo Officer distributing CEOI's. We were at LZ Liz I believe. Well, somehow he misplaced the Bn CEOI so we had to have Division issue new ones. It was very important since it had all the frequencies and call signs, Kac codes etc.. Well, Division, got a new one out but they were not kind to us. The Bn Commanders call sign was Facial Climax 6. By the way, when I deros'd I of course went out of Chu Lai. Well I met up with some outprocessing guys and they somehow came up with a jeep and CS Grenades. We got tanked up that night and reports were that Division HQ (really the SGM Club) got hit with gas from the NVA. I have no idea of how they got that idea. I went on a second tour in '71 and believe me I missed the 1/20th up in Phu Bai. In 1973 I joined the E.O.D. program and retired as a Senior EOD Supervisor in 1987.

Chuck: You will not be forgotten. All the good work you did composing a concise history of 1/20 Infantry in Vietnam, what a thing to be proud. You will be missed. I believe what General MacArthur said about Old Soldiers is true, they never die, they just fade away but their memory remains.

We emailed back and forth, and always enjoyed talking with him. We had a lot of laughs and good conversations. Truly a great man and soldier. He will be missed.  Ken Quale

Chuck Seketa was one of the finest Company Commanders I ever knew. I lived across the hall from him in Hawaii, an imposing guy that all the young Lieutenants respected. It was great getting to know him again through the Americal Reunions, starting with Chicago, Buffalo, Bowling Green, etc. Chuck helped many men overcome their problems and fears through counseling and providing facts about our tours in Nam. He worked tirelessly to assist other veterans and put together our history and the story of our unit. He will be greatly missed by all of his fellow Vets. Col, Jesse J. Lewis, USA. Ret.

I am greatly saddened with the loss of CPT Seketa. I served with him when he was the S-4 Officer in Hawaii and Nam. I remember when we were alerted for deployment to Nam, CPT Seketa asked if he could ship his golf clubs to my home address because of baggage limitations. He lived in Liverpool, NY and I in Troy, NY. So I kept the clubs for 3 years to 1971. I was not a golfer and I was left handed, so the clubs would not work for me, so I gave them to my girlfriends brother. 1968 was the last contact I had with CPT Seketa until I was stricken with Multiple Myeloma in 2005. When he visited me at the VA hospital 37 years had passed since VN and the first thing I asked was, "I hope your not here to pick up your golf clubs". Thankfully, he had forgotten about the clubs. Even though he was suffering from illness and in pain. He traveled from Liverpool to Albany to visit me. CPT Seketa was a good S-4 Officer, Line Co Commander and a great friend who in spite of his own pain and suffering, has helped me through my ordeal with cancer and paralysis. I will miss Chuck Seketa. Best wish's to his family.

I was with the 1/20, D Co., 2nd Plt, 2nd Sqd Leader. I am looking for anyone who knew 1LT. Glen Hata, he was KIA on 2 April 1971. SP4 Elred C. Dadler was wounded in action. They were assigned to the Americal Div. Along with this casualties there was three others. One the CPT who was injured about the face, very severe and another that I called 'ham n eggs', the last one was a PFC or SPC, I can't recall. I am particularly trying to identify that particular wounded CPT. It is hard to recall names, but perhaps pictures could help. I don't have the picture of that Cpt. but I do have others with my unit. I would gladly share them.

It was my privilege to serve under Chuck in Alpha Company. Our connection goes back to 1966 when the battalion was being formed at Schofield Barracks and he was our Company commander ( Alpha ). We crossed paths many times in Vietnam but it was almost 38 years later before we had an opportunity to sit down and talk about old times. Thanks to computers and the work that he was doing I was able to reconnect with this big man who had a big caring heart for his fellow veterans, family and friends.

I served with B Co. 39th Eng. 0n LZ Dottie through Sept. 1968 I was a squad leader, and we did mine sweeps every day, along with building bridges and working on Hwy 1. I believe in June or July of 1968 we were hit with rockets, and mortars, and the sappers got in the compound, and were throwing satchel charges in the bunkers on the artillery side. There was a direct hit on a 105, and they tried to overrun the LZ. Someone called for air support, and Puff came out helped turn them back. A few days later quad 50s were brought in to beef up the perimeter. A few of the names I remember were SGT Swafford, Deberry, Jerry Potts, Lt. Hoover. Thanks for your web page    Sgt. Retired from the Army in 1975 and went on to serve in law enforcement until my retirement in 1994. Thanks for the memories... Ken Bartlett CPT (ret)

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful trip to Vietnam a few years ago. As a group of Americans, we weren't sure what kind of reception we would have, but the people were warm, welcoming, very friendly. The country is beautiful and we enjoyed the stay very much. During our trip, we acquired a dog tag from a gentleman named James R. Whitley. I see from your website that a person by that name was a battalion commander who assumed command of his unit in 1971. I have no idea if this is a real dog tag, or one that was fabricated for gullible tourists. But assuming it's real, and if the family would like the dog tag returned to them, we'd be happy to do so... just contact me at the email address above. (The SSN was originally issued in North Carolina and the blood type is A Positive.) Many thanks for preserving these memories and this important history.

Dear Brothers, I arrived in Schofield on 18 June 1967 and served in 2nd Platoon Bravo Company until my DEROS in late June 1968 (except for a short stint as 1st Platoon Ldr. from 7 May until 12 May 68) I hope that you all are well. If Vietnam were not enough, my career enabled me to experience @6 Feb. 93 and 11 Sept. 01 as I was employed on the 96th floor of 2 World Trade Center. If the aircraft hit Tower One at 9:00 hours rather than 8:48 hours, I would not be submitting this posting. I have been a POW activist for more than 25 years and have served on the board of the National Vietnam & Gulf War Veterans Coalition(which I have chaired for the last six) since 1985. (See veterans-coalition.org). Our annual event in DC is on 10 November 2009 (see website) and I would gladly underwrite a reserved table for anyone who served in B 1/20 while I was there. I would convey my best wishes to the new guys who joined us in 68. If you would like to call rather than email my # is (717) 334 7622. John Molloy (Sid) Sgt. E-5, B 1/20

Some time between May-June 1968, while providing forward support for our line companies on a mission North of Tam Ky and about a mile East of Hwy #1,I was returning from a trip to LZ Bronco for Supplies (Ammo & Beer). I recall that there was a 7PM curfew when the entrance to our location would be closed and a free fire zone would be in affect, so I wanted to get there in time but it was 6pm as a passed through Tam Ky and I picked up a Special Forces soldier (who snuck away from his detachment (North of Tam Ky, on the West side on Hwy#1) for some nookie. On our way we were caught in the middle of a fire fight between NVA, VC and ARVN's. The NVA were to the east of hwy1 and ARVN's to the west and we were in the middle on hwy# 1. I could not get off the road and the vehicle was getting hit (I think from both sides) so I grabbed my M79 and M16 and we got out and under the 3/4ton. That is when I plastered a VC in the chest with a M79 round. I would like to contact that Special Forces Soldier however I never asked his name. Since he was Spec Forces, I don't expect the he will ever visit this guestbook but if anyone recalls a conversation about this incident I sure would like to reminisce and know his name.

What a flood of memories this site brought back. The video from Co D on LZ Liz, waiting for birds.., I felt I was there again, just finished cleaning out the honey pots and was trying to hide long enough to grab a few more hours of freedom before going back to the bush. That type of experience changed every one of us..some for the good... some for the bad. An infantry soldier while in country, I like many of us, never for an instant doubted that we were serving the best of the best. God Bless

I'm very proud to have served in the 1/20th Battalion, and all the officers and men who made my service to our country one of the most memorable of my life. I do remember Col. Robert Wilson when he served on LZ LIZ as our commander, I thought enough of him to request he pose for a picture which I have on a DVD on my tour of Vietnam. So sorry to hear of his passing, but to his family I would only say I was indeed proud to serve under his command, he was genuine. To the family of Daniel G. Rulison of company A I want to say I was one of the last to see Daniel as he boarded the copter and what an impression he made on me. Hopefully I can get in touch with some of his family to let them know his impact on this soldier. You all do a great service to all of us and our families who served under this banner. I just lost my wife this past December and she saw to it that I made two reunions. Thanks again for all you do.

Very good site, thanks for the time and effort to keep it going. Interesting to review the daily reports and all the names. I only wish my memory with names was better. I believe my platoon officer was Lt. Hampton and I know my squad leader was Gus Trujillo. I do remember being on this sort of "Island" in the middle of rice fields and digging up rice for a week. Also a land clearing operation loaded with booby traps and snipers. Forty years ago this Sep.1 , my birthday, I left for Vietnam. Hope to visit with many of you later this month in Louisiana and help clear my memory.

Nice history of the unit and its honors. Funny that the history shows end of tour in VN as 1971 but claim a Meritorius Unit Commendation (MUC) for 1972. Here's the rest of the story. Some time in spring 1972, E Co 20th IN was reactivated as E Co 20th IN (Security)(Syke's Regulars) at the port of Newport on Saigon river. The company was to provide protection for the port and was attached to the 71st Transportation Bn of the 4th Transportation Command. It was deactivated in Oct 1972. We had patrols, guard towers, APCs, and provided protection for the ships loading and unloading there. The unit was made up of those Infantry types who had time left on their tours but were from units being deactivated. Interesting hodge-podge of personnel. We even had the Syke's Regular unit crest. But we did our job and had no damages to port or personnel. We did receive a MUC for being part of the 71st who had done a great job of shipping and recieving supplies and ammo thru the port. So, that's how you got your MUC for 1972. Not as glorious as the other honors but done proudly. Michael E. Moran, 1LT, Inf, Operations Officer and Platoon Ldr, E Co 20th INF (Security). May -Oct 72, RVN.

Untold Stories- I bet that many of us who provided support to our line companies in Nam have some crazy war stories. I remember when part of the S-4 section was detailed to provide forward support to our line company (can't recall which one). We were located on a hill ( can't recall the number), just north of Tam Ky on the south side of Hwy 1. We made supply runs to Chu Lai usually with a 3/4ton and one day on a return trip we were late' it was past the 7PM curfew. Our truck was loaded with rations, soda and beer. Just south of Tam Ky we were caught in a fierce fire fight between ARVNs and NVA/VC. The truck seemed to be the best cover so I grabbed my M79 and got under the truck. I fired it and hit a VC point blank in the chest and all I saw was a flash of red. To this day I don't quite understand because I thought a M79 grenade was timed and not impact detonated. I recall that we were primarily concerned about the beer in the truck. Finally, the ARVN,s overtook the enemy and we continued on our way. I'm sure that many other support personnel have these stories and close calls that seemed to be routine at the time.

Oct. 29, 1970 - Ronnie Ray was not wounded. The guy's name that was wounded was Reginald Wray. The reason I know this is that the telegram was sent to my parents, using Reginald Wray's name. My parents contacted the Red Cross and got it straightened out. Also, on the 1970 company roster, his name is spelled Reginald Vray, it should be Wray. He was from New York City, had only been in country a couple of months. Contacted Chuck Seketa - he suggested that other people needed to read the daily reports and help him get any information corrected.

I had signed the guest book earlier. But I have a question. Actually maybe two. This is regarding the company roster and years served with 1/20th. Is it possible to list the platoon that each member was in? I really can't remember the platoon I was in, and there is only a hand full (maybe 3) of names that I know was in the same platoon. Sgt. Richard Blue, Sp Dennis Schultz (I think that was his first name, and maybe the last name is incorrect in spelling. his nickname was "Tripflare"), Gary Hightower, Lt. Ransdale, and Sgt. Sclueter. My name is Sarah Gross and I am a student at Westlake High School in Austin, Texas. We have recently begun a project on the Vietnam era in which we are to construct a virtual memorial of a soldier, mine being Avery Merrill "Tracy" Nye III from South Whitley, Indiana.
In my research, I found Mr. Nye's name on your 1st battalion 20th infantry D company 1970 roster. I would like to ask for your help in my honoring and remembering of Mr. Nye. I was wondering if a mass email could be sent to those from the D company of 1970 who might have known Mr. Nye. Anything helps!
Thank you for your time! -Sarah

(To view memorials constructed by previous years at WHS: -go to www.whschaps.com -scroll down to the link at the center of the page reading "Click here to visit our Virtual Vietnam Memorial Wall project" -scroll down to the directory of names -click to view.

Webmaster's Note: Gentlemen, Take a few minutes of your time to visit the link noted above.  This is an outstanding project and a meaningful tribute to those who served.  If you have any information about CPL Nye, please share it with Sarah.  Jim

I would like to hear from you grunts that were in valley with me. Should you need any help in your VA claims or misplaced awards and decorations that you should have gotten I will be willing to help. I am fully retired now and have the time to do it. I am the Grandson SSGT Ehtridge Doane. My Grandfather passed away January 08 from a long battle with illness. He took with him all his years of his service with him. He never spoke of his time that he spent with D Company. The only indication that he served in Vietnam, or any campaign was the service record that he left. If anyone that served with him could please contact me about his role in D Company this would be helpful. I would like to know his role in the unit. Thank you to CPT Chuck Seketa for looking into his service during this time as well. SGT Ethridge F. Doane IV

I served with E Company 20th Infantry in Korea from June 1961 to August 1962. We were stationed about 25 miles south of Seoul. Our mission was to guard an ammo site that was an old Japanese ammo site during the 2nd World War, which the US Army took over to store our reserve ammo in case of another invasion. Are there any of my old fellow soldiers out there on this site?

Hello to all the folks of 1/20. I was a member of the 3rd platoon of Charlie Company 4/3 in 1969 and 1970. We were opcon to 1/20 for a few weeks in May and June of 1970. We were security for the C26 Engineers on a land clearing operation in your AO. I am writing to thank those responsible for compiling the daily reports for your batallion. I have been creating a database of all the grid coordinates that I visited during my tour. I had all the 4/3 reports thanks to the tireless work of Bruce Flaherty of 4/3. Now, thanks to you folks, I have the missing time while we were opcon 1/20. Thank you for the great job!

8/18/08 Hello. My name is Kyle Nappi. I am 18 years old and I live in Ostrander, Ohio ( USA ). I was wondering if you could do me a favor. I have a big interest in history, specifically WWII. I collect military medals, patches, badges, insignia, field gear, and a very unique thing, veteran autographs. I have a collection of autographs from military veterans who served during WWI, WWII, Korea , Vietnam , Gulf War, and the present war in Iraq . I have been interested in history for over 6 years now, and I have collected the autographs and stories from nearly 1,600 veterans in 20 countries. The oldest veteran is currently 112 years old and the youngest enlisted at age 14. I have autographs from Pearl Harbor survivors, D-Day veterans, airman, POWs, USS Indianapolis survivors, Holocaust survivors, and even German soldiers! Back in June (of 2007), I was interview by PBS, to talk about my collection for an interview that was to be shown online (YouTube). After that, I was interviewed for "The Columbus World War II Roadshow." They mentioned that it was to come on (in Central-Ohio) before some of the episodes of Ken Burns’ "The War." You can find this interview on YouTube under "Kyle Nappi." I was recently interviewed by the American Legion for an article that will appear in their August magazine. Here is an internet link to the online article (different than the magazine article, which will appear in August) http://www.legion.org/whatsnew/publications/newsletter/story?id=635 There have been several other people have taken the time to post my request online and in newspapers. There are too many for me to list, but if you go to Google or Yahoo and search "Kyle Nappi" you can find most of them. Recently, I also had the privilege of going to Washington, D.C. during the early part of March. I was invited to the Pentagon for a Ceremony honoring WWI veterans. I was able to meet with the last American WWI veteran, Frank Buckles. My main purpose for writing it to share with you that there are people from my generation who do remember the past and the sacrifices that were made for our great country. I would greatly appreciate it if you could pass the word around that there are people who remember, along with the information about my collection. If any veterans would like to help with my collection, feel free to contact me. Thank you very much for your time. Sincerely, Kyle Nappi Kyle Nappi 1890 Warren Rd. I am the widow of Stefano Giardina and the mother of Charles (Chuck) Giardina. My granddaughter told me about my son finding this web site and I would like to chat with some of the guys that knew my husband. My son was chatting with someone that admired his courageous ability in VN. Called him an American Hero that fought for his new found country. Would any of those other courageous men please contact me so that I may know a little bit more of those lost years? Thank you for this great web site. It is the best asset a person has to get to talk to some of the people who made and are making our country safe for us to live in. God Bless all of you and hope life has treated you well.  Roz Giardina

My dad, Ralph Moore, is on this site. What a feeling to see so many young faces along with your dad having to face such a crazy place. I appreciate all of your courage/bravery while serving. My thoughts are with you and your families and know that nothing you have done will be forgotten. My dad is a strong, wonderful man and he means the world to me. SO being able to say he was there is one thing but to still have him with us today is a blessing. Again many thanks to everyone! This site is wonderful. Thanks! Sara

I enjoyed all the reunions since Orlando, we put a lot of questions we had about certain involvements and who was there when it happened. We helped each other in our own little hell that some of us carried for 40 years. Reach out and help a vet that has been lost since coming back. louie/002/68-69

I see that Chuck Giardina wrote asking if anyone remembers his father (Stefano Giardina). I think he was in 3rd platoon while I was in 1st. The thing I remember most and one of the reasons I admired him was. While most of us took Bangkok, Tokyo, Hong Kong or other places for R&R for obvious reasons. Stefano who was born in Italy and was not a citizen took Guam. I remember asking him why Guam his answer was that he was going there to become an American citizen. A month or two later, after coming back as a new American citizen, he was shot through the chest and died for his new country. I still admire him and still think of him as a true American Hero.

As I was reading the postings I saw a name I seem to recall, James Cremeans. I arrived at Co A in March '67 and helped train the masses of new arrivals. If you remember me or my name, send my an email please, I have been in touch with only a few of the guys. I recall the forming of D Co from the ranks of A, B, and C as I remember. So today I am going to venture down to a reunion of D Co being held in Bowling Green, KY to say hello and possibly run into Cpt. Seketa again.

Was sent to Hawaii 3 weeks after 25th Div left for V.N. Was 1 of 5 in limbo at D Quad until 11th Bde was activated. Was Cpt. Seketa's driver, Was Lt. Bordner's driver, was Company Armorer, Was Chief Computer for FDC during tour of V.N. (Dec. 67-- Dec. 68). FYI-- There were only 7 of us from the original A Co. who got on the truck to rotate from V.N. on Dec. 4th 1968. I live in Mi. and retired as of Sept. 07. As civilian did Elec. maint. at US Steel, Journeyman Govt. certified special metals welder/fabricator, field service tech for John Deere Diesels. I would like to Thank Cpt. Seketa For his time and effort in the research and composition of this web site. It means a great deal to all who served with him. I will never forget him and the fun and trials I had as his driver in Hawaii.

I enjoyed the history on this site. There was a lot of research done for this. I would like to know if anyone out there knows more about the 20th Infantry. I was with HHC 4/20 Ft Clayton Panama; it was inactivated 1984. I did not read anything about this group, only that the 1st Battle Group 20th Infantry was inactivated August 1962. I do not know when the 4/20th was activated in Panama. Again this is a great history site and I enjoyed reading it.  John

More videos posted as tributes to 1/20th, the Aviation guys that supported us and a tribute to the all the guys that lost their lives or were wounded on Easter Sunday, April 11, 1971. Look forward to hearing from anyone I served with or anyone from 1/20th. Chuck, thanks again for all your hard work on this site. Will the A company site ever return? Does anyone have the site, I have servers that can host it. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=8CBF2E0D4E59F737
